Frequently asked questions

How does automatic shot detection work?
LaneCaddie reads your wrist motion through the Apple Watch's built-in motion sensors and recognizes the bowling release on-device. There's nothing to calibrate — start a session and bowl. Detection works best with the Watch on your bowling hand.
Which devices do I need?
An iPhone running a current version of iOS for scoring and stats. For automatic shot detection and motion metrics you'll also need an Apple Watch (Series 6 or later recommended) paired to that iPhone.
Does it work without an Apple Watch?
Yes — you can score games manually on your iPhone in the free tier. The Watch is only required for automatic shot detection and per-shot motion metrics.
How do I pair my Apple Watch / install the Watch app?
Install LaneCaddie on your iPhone first. The Watch app installs automatically if you have "Automatic App Install" enabled in the Watch app, or you can install it manually from the Watch app's Available Apps list. Add the LaneCaddie complication to your watch face for one-tap session starts.
What permissions does LaneCaddie ask for, and why?
Motion & Fitness (to read the wrist motion that powers shot detection) and HealthKit (optional — to log workout duration, heart rate, and calories to Apple Health). You can decline HealthKit and still use everything else. We never require Contacts, Photos, or Location.
Can I bowl with my non-bowling hand on the Watch?
For shot detection, the Watch should be on your bowling hand. Manual scoring works regardless of which wrist you wear it on.
Does it work for left-handers?
Yes. LaneCaddie is built and tested lefty-first, and works identically for right-handed bowlers.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
You return to the free tier (with ads). Your complete history of games and stats remains on your device and in your iCloud backup.
Will I lose my games if I get a new phone?
No. As long as iCloud backup is enabled, restoring to a new iPhone brings your full LaneCaddie history with it.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Do you offer refunds?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Each paid tier also includes a 14-day free trial so you can try before you're charged.
Is Family Sharing supported?
No — LaneCaddie subscriptions are per-account by design. One paying Apple ID equals one entitlement.
When is the Camera tier coming?
It's our Phase 2 release. We announce features on social, not email — follow @LaneCaddie for the news.
